Manual EQ and Zen Microphone Requirements for Android

Q: Do I need to purchase a Zen Mic to use the Room EQ feature?

Our WiSA Stereo Hub HT, Surround Hub, Surround Hub X includes automatic room EQ function. For best performance, it is suggested to use the Zen Microphone for calibration. Zen Mic is mandatory for Android users; iPhone users can also use the built-in microphone with a good result.

Q: Is there much of a quality difference between using iphone mic and using a zen mic for calibration?

There is not a huge difference - your iPhone will be able to make the measurement well. However, the Zen Microphone can cover a larger frequency range, and therefore make a more accurate measurement of your room. It is not a necessity, but it does improve the measurement. 

Q: Can I manually adjust the EQ and per-speaker volume on an Android device without the Zen Microphone?

A: Yes, absolutely. You can fully access the manual EQ settings and adjust the volume for individual speakers on both Android and iOS devices without the need for a Zen Microphone.

The Zen Microphone is strictly required only if you wish to use the automatic Room EQ calibration feature on an Android device. If you prefer to tune your system manually, you do not need the microphone to do so.
