What Speaker Configurations Are Supported by Surround Hub / Hub X?

Supported Audio Configurations

Whether you are building a simple stereo setup or a fully immersive home theater, the Surround Hub offers highly flexible configuration options.

The system supports the following speaker setups: 2.0, 2.1, 3.0, 3.1, 3.1.2, 4.0, 4.1, 4.1.2, 5.0, 5.1, 5.1.2, 7.0, and 7.1.

Using Multiple Subwoofers (e.g., 5.2.2 Setup)

If you want to use two subwoofers to add more bass to your room, the system fully supports it.

However, please note that both subwoofers will be grouped under the same audio channel. This means the hub will treat them as a single subwoofer signal, but you will still get the combined physical power, deep bass, and total output of two separate subwoofers working together.

Maximum Speaker Capacity (WiSA System Limits)

Because the Surround Hub uses advanced WiSA HT wireless technology, it can support a massive number of speakers for large rooms.

  • The system supports a maximum of 8 independent audio channels.

  • You can assign up to 4 speakers per channel.

  • In total, your entire audio system can accommodate up to 32 individual speakers.

Important Note on Channel-Level Control (Volume, EQ, and Crossovers)

When setting up multiple speakers on the same channel (for example, assigning two speakers to the Front Left channel and two to the Front Right channel), it is important to understand how the audio tuning works:

The Surround Hub controls audio settings at the channel level, not the speaker level.

  • Volume and EQ: Any volume or EQ adjustments made in the hub's app will apply to all speakers assigned to that channel simultaneously. You cannot adjust them individually through the hub.

  • Frequency Ranges (HP and LP Filters): The hub does not support setting different High-Pass (HP) or Low-Pass (LP) frequency ranges for speakers on the same channel. Even in stereo mode, multiple speakers sharing a channel will operate in the exact same upper and lower frequency ranges.

The Workaround: If you need to fine-tune the volume, or set specific High-Pass and Low-Pass filters for an individual speaker within a shared channel, you will need to make those adjustments natively on the speaker itself (provided your specific speaker model features built-in controls for volume, HP, and LP settings).
