Zen Microphone & Room EQ

Q: How does the Platin WiSA Hub room correction work, and does it adjust time domain and speaker delay?

A: Our Room EQ system is built on proprietary technology that relies on your smartphone's CPU to handle all data calculations, meaning no additional hardware or PC is required. The system measures the emitted sound power of your speakers to identify which frequencies are over-represented and which are under-represented in your specific room. It then mathematically balances these frequencies to deliver a flat, highly accurate sound response. This seamless process provides incredible improvements to your overall audio experience.

Q: Do I need to purchase a Zen Microphone to use the Room EQ feature on a Platin WiSA hub?

A: Platin's WiSA hubs (including the Stereo Hub HT, Surround Hub, and Surround Hub X) feature automatic Room EQ built-in. While we highly recommend the Zen Microphone for the absolute best calibration performance, it is not strictly required for everyone. If you are an Android user, the Zen Microphone is mandatory to utilize Room EQ. However, iPhone users can use their device's built-in microphone and still achieve good results.

Please note: The Zen Microphone is not compatible with the WiSA SoundSend.

Q: Is there a significant difference in calibration quality between using an iPhone microphone and the Zen Microphone?

A: While your iPhone's built-in microphone will perform the measurement quite well, the Zen Microphone does offer a distinct advantage. The Zen Microphone covers a significantly larger frequency range, allowing it to capture a more detailed and accurate acoustic measurement of your room. While not an absolute necessity for iPhone users, upgrading to the Zen Microphone will noticeably improve the precision of your final calibration.

Q: Do I need to perform separate room calibrations for 5.1 surround sound and stereo modes?

A: No, a single calibration is all you need. When you run Room EQ, the system collects acoustic data about your specific room and how sound behaves within that physical space. Our algorithm uses this data to tune each individual speaker directly to the room. Because the calibration is tied to the room's unique acoustics, it automatically adapts to your system regardless of the listening mode you choose.

Q: What is the correct way to hold the Zen Microphone during the sound measurement process?

A: For the most accurate calibration, you should not stand in one place. Instead, walk around your room while continuously moving the microphone up and down. This dynamic movement gathers the best possible data on how sound travels through every part of your listening area, allowing the app to create a highly precise, customized audio profile.

Q: How do I connect the Zen Microphone to the Platin Harmony App?

A: To successfully pair your microphone with the app, follow these steps:

  • Ensure the Zen Microphone is in configuration mode, which is indicated by a rapidly blinking white LED.
  • Open the Platin Harmony App and navigate to the "Room EQ" tab at the bottom of the screen.
  • Tap the phone icon in the upper right corner. The Zen Microphone will appear in the menu for you to select and connect.

Q: Why isn't my Zen Microphone lighting up red during calibration? Is the app using my phone's microphone instead?

A: If the Zen Microphone does not illuminate in red, the app has not selected it as the primary audio input. Before initiating the Room EQ process, look at the upper right corner of the app screen. You will see an option to toggle between the Zen Mic and your Phone Mic. You must manually select the Zen Mic first. Once properly selected, the microphone will glow red throughout the calibration process.

Q: What should I set for the natural roll-off frequency during the Room EQ scan, and what are the recommended crossover frequencies?

A: During the Room EQ frequency scan, you will be prompted to enter a natural roll-off frequency. If you are using the SW-150 subwoofer, its frequency response extends down to 30Hz, so you should set the roll-off frequency to 30Hz. Regarding crossover frequencies, the WiSA system will automatically suggest optimal settings based on the specific speakers it detects. For Monaco speakers, a crossover frequency of 70Hz to 80Hz is highly recommended.
